What is accreditation?

Accreditation is a formal recognition of competence according to European and international standards. Accreditation has been used for over 50 years as the definitive means of assessing organizations and is now used in all primary economies of the world and in many developing countries.

ISO / IEC 17011 provides the following definition of accreditation: “Accreditation relates to the certification by the third party related to a body under conformity assessment that officially demonstrates its competence for fulfillment of specific tasks under the conformity evaluation.”

Quality requirements for goods and services are continuously increasing as a result of the liberalization of global trade and growing demands from consumers, companies and legislators.

Whether it is environmental protection, food or electrical industry, health care or renewable energy, therefore, for these and many other industries objective testing, calibration, inspections or certifications play a very important role.

Accreditation is a formal recognition by a third party that an organization is competent to perform certain tasks, that is the work for which they are accredited.

Accreditation can be voluntary or authorized by a government. It is a continuous quality improvement process that demonstrates compliance with international and/or national standards.
