Accreditation of environmental management systems

Environmental management system certification is provided by certification bodies (CB) to organizations whose management systems comply with the requirements of ISO14001 standard.

ISO14001 defines the elements of an environmental management system that an organization must have in place to become certified under the standard. To achieve this standard, a company must have an environmental policy communicated to all employees.

It must identify its environmental aspects and set goals and objectives to improve its environmental impact and performance. These goals and objectives should be measurable and closely monitored by the organization. A company must also ensure compliance with any applicable environmental legislation.

A certification body applying for ISO 14001 accreditation must comply with ISO / IEC 17021-1 and ISO 17021-2, as well as other additional international requirements detailed in the Specific Accreditation Requirements for the EMS scheme.
